MELBOURNE - Jan 15/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge to far north coast of New South Wales, and is directing moist northeasterly winds into a weakening trough over the inland. During Sunday the trough is expected to weaken further and move northeast as another high pressure system moves south of the Bight extending a ridge across the west. A cold front associated with a low passing south of Tasmania is likely to affect the southern and central parts on Monday followed by a ridge strengthening from the southwest again on Tuesday. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Vania south of New Caledonia is expected to move slowly south to southeast over the next few days. Tropical Cyclone Zelia in the northern Coral Sea is expected to intensify and move southeast. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated clearing showers over the central parts and in the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms in the far northwest. Fine elsewhere. East to northeast winds in the northeast, and southerly winds elsewhere.Sunday 16 JanuaryEarly fog patches mostly about the ranges. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern and central inland. The chance of showers in the far northeast and possible early showers on the central parts of the coast with drizzle on adjacent ranges. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing later on the far southern ranges. Fine elsewhere. East to northeast winds near the coast, and west to southwest winds inland.Monday 17 JanuaryCloud and isolated showers/drizzle along the southern coast extending to the central coast later. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over parts of the northeast. Fine elsewhere. Southeast to southwest winds extending throughout.Tuesday 18 JanuaryIsolated showers along the coast, reaching the adjacent ranges in the northern and central parts. South to southeast winds.Wednesday 19 JanuaryIsolated showers along the coast, reaching the adjacent ranges in the south and the inland slopes in the north.
