MELBOURNE - Jan 13/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the northern New South Wales coast, and is directing moist northeasterly winds into a trough in the state's far west. By late Friday the high is expected to be over New Zealand, while the trough progresses to central parts of New South Wales and an associated low passes near Tasmania. During the weekend the trough is forecast o weaken into a broad area of low pressure, shifting towards the northeast as a ridge begins to enter the western parts of the state. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the west, heavy at times in the far west. Isolated showers in the east, chiefly along the coast. North to northeasterly winds, fresh and gusty along the coast, and in the far west.Friday 14 JanuaryIsolated showers along the coast and adjacent ranges, clearing in the south during the morning. Areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms in the west, heavy at times in the far west, with patchy rain extending to the southeast later. Fine elsewhere. North to northeast winds in the east, and southerly winds in the west.Saturday 15 JanuaryAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms in northwest, central and southeastern districts. Isolated showers on the far north coast. Fine elsewhere. East to northeast winds in the northeast, and southerly winds elsewhere.Sunday 16 JanuaryFine in the southwest. Isolated showers elsewhere, with the chance of thunderstorms over the northern inland. East to northeast winds near the coast, and west to southwest winds inland.Monday 17 JanuaryIsolated showers about the coast and adjacent ranges, and over the northeast inland. Fine elsewhere.
