MELBOURNE - Jan 12/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressures system near western Bass Strait is moving to the southwest while a high pressure system lies south of Tasmania. The two systems are producing a humid and unstable northerly flow across the state. Another low pressure system will develop over South Australia on Thursday as the high pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea. The low pressure system will move south on Friday as the accompanying low pressure trough moves across the State. A weak high pressure ridge will move over Victoria on Saturday then a cold front will move through Bass Strait on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayMostly cloudy and humid. Widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms with locally heavy falls over central districts and the northeast. Showers more isolated over western districts and Gippsland. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds, tending fresh to strong east to northeasterly about the coast and shifting moderate to fresh northwesterly about the southwest.Thursday 13 JanuaryCloudy and humid with areas of rain, becoming more widespread in the north and west with locally heavy falls. Isolated thunderstorms possible. Mild to warm with light to moderate north to northeasterly winds, becoming fresh to strong and gusty about the coast and over western districts during the afternoon. Winds reaching gale force over elevated areas in the west later in the day.Friday 14 JanuaryCloudy and humid with widespread rain extending eastwards across the state. Rain clearing western districts during the morning and central districts during the afternoon and evening. Locally heavy falls possible, mainly over central districts and the northeast. Isolated showers or drizzle following the rain south of the ranges. Mild to warm with fresh to strong and gusty northerly winds shifting moderate to locally fresh west to southwesterly from the west. Northerly winds reaching gale force over elevated areas ahead of the change.Saturday 15 JanuaryMorning fog patches in the north. Rain areas in the east clearing by the afternoon. Isolated morning drizzle patches in the south. Mostly sunny in the north. Light to moderate south to southwesterly winds, fresh at times about the Gippsland coast.Sunday 16 JanuaryPartly cloudy in the south with isolated showers near the western and central coasts. Mostly sunny in the north.
