MELBOURNE - Jan 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A broad slow moving trough is centred over western Victoria while a ridge of high pressure lies south of Tasmania. The two systems are producing a humid and unstable northeasterly flow across the state. The trough will strengthen on Wednesday and develop into a low pressure system over South Australia on Thursday as a high pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea. The low pressure system and accompanying low pressure trough will move across the State on Friday with a weak ridge to follow on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayCloudy and humid with areas of rain, more isolated over Gippsland. Possible heavy falls developing over western and central districts. Isolated thunderstorms, more likely in the west and north. Mild with moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds, strong at times about the coast.Wednesday 12 JanuaryCloudy and humid. Rain, more widespread over northern and central districts with locally heavy falls, easing during the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms. Mild to warm with light to moderate north to northeasterly winds, tending fresh to strong east to northeasterly about the coast and shifting moderate southerly in the far west.Thursday 13 JanuaryCloudy and humid with areas of rain, becoming more widespread in the west later with locally heavy falls. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the northwest. Mild to warm with light to north to northeasterly winds, freshening about the coast and over western districts during the afternoon.Friday 14 JanuaryCloudy and humid with widespread rain areas extending eastwards across the state and clearing western districts during the afternoon and evening Locally heavy falls, mainly on and north of the divide and in the west. Mild to warm with fresh to strong and gusty northerly winds shifting moderate to locally fresh west to southwesterly from the west.Saturday 15 JanuaryRain areas in the east clearing by the afternoon. Isolated morning drizzle patches in the south with morning fog patches in the north. Cloudy in the south and east at first with some sunny breaks developing during the afternoon. Mostly sunny in the north.
