MELBOURNE - Jan 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge to the New South Wales coast, directing a humid east to northeasterly airstream over the state. A trough lies embedded within this stream off the northern coast, while another trough is situated over the state's west. The inland trough is expected to remain in the area through to mid-week, while an upper trough is present over eastern New South Wales. A high pressure system, currently strengthening south of the Bight, is forecast to drift gradually east during the next few days, maintaining a moist easterly airstream over the state. Forecast for the rest of SundayMostly fine in the far northwest. Rain periods or showers elsewhere, and the chance of thunderstorms. East to to southeast winds, fresh at times about the ranges and in the northeast.Monday 10 JanuaryRain areas in most parts of the state, possible heavy falls in the far northeast. Moderate to fresh easterly winds.Tuesday 11 JanuaryShowers and thunderstorms over the northwest. Widespread rain elsewhere, with possible heavy falls in the northeast. Moderate to fresh east to northeast winds.Wednesday 12 JanuaryRain areas across the south and east. Showers elsewhere.
