MELBOURNE - Jan 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak monsoonal trough is located over the tropics. An upper level low offshore from the Capricorn coast is expected to remain slow moving before moving towards the coast during Sunday. A surface trough lying off the southern coast will remain slow moving. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Rain areas over southeastern districts with possible moderate to heavy falls about the eastern Wide Bay and Southeast Coast districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southeast interior, easing to showers over the remainder of the eastern half of the state. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate W to NW winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, tending fresh to strong about the southern coast. Forecast for Sunday Rain areas over southeastern districts with possible moderate to heavy falls about the eastern Wide Bay and Southeast Coast districts, and extending into eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms over the southern and eastern interior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate W to NW winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, tending fresh to strong about the southern coast. Forecast for Monday The upper level low is expected to weaken and move west into the southern interior with further rain areas over the southeast of the state, again moderate to heavy falls are possible over the Southeast Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing over remaining southern and western districts as moisture increases inland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest. Winds about the southern coast begin to weaken. Forecast for Tuesday The upper level low continues to weaken over the southwest of the state. Rain areas will continue in the southeast with further moderate to heavy falls possible over the Southeast Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over most southern and western districts, tending scattered over the tropics and northwest with rain areas developing. Forecast for Wednesday Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the west and north of the state, tending to rain areas in parts in the monsoon flow. A firm ridge along the east coast will bring scattered showers near the coast, tending more isolated inland and through the southern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The upper atmosphere stabilises over southeast Queensland while moisture builds in the west. Isolated showers in the east, mostly near the coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the west and the tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
