MELBOURNE - Jan 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak monsoonal trough is located over Cape York Peninsula. An upper level low near the Capricornia coast is expected to move offshore overnight and remain offshore on Saturday. A surface trough lying off the Fraser Coast will remain slow moving. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Rain areas over southeastern districts with possible moderate to heavy falls about the eastern Wide Bay and Southeast Coast districts. Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms over the southeast interior, easing to showers over the remaining southern and eastern interior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest. Fine over central and southwest parts. Light to moderate W to NW winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the remaining east coast, tending fresh to strong about the southeast. Light to moderate E to SE winds inland. Forecast for Sunday Rain areas over southeastern districts with possible moderate to heavy falls about the eastern Wide Bay and Southeast Coast districts. Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms over the southern and eastern interior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest. Fine over central and southwest parts. Light to moderate W to NW winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the remaining east coast, tending fresh to strong about the southeast. Light to moderate E to SE winds inland. Forecast for Monday The upper level low is expected to weaken and move west into the southern interior with further rain areas over the southeast of the state, again moderate to heavy falls are possible over the Southeast Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing over most southern and western districts as moisture increases inland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest. Forecast for Tuesday The upper level low continues to weaken over the southwest of the state. Rain areas will continue in the southeast with further moderate to heavy falls possible over the Southeast Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over most southern and western districts, tending scattered over the tropics and northwest. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The upper atmosphere stabilises over southeast Queensland while moisture builds in the west. A firm ridge and SE winds will bring scattered showers along most of the east coast, tending isolated about the southeast interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southern and eastern interior contracting west on Thursday and Friday. Shower and thunderstorms tending scattered in the tropics and through western districts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
