MELBOURNE - Jan 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak monsoonal trough occurs over Cape York Peninsula. An upper level low is moving north to the Capricorn region. Forecast for the rest of Friday Rain areas generally over the southeast with moderate to heavy falls and local thunder over the eastern Wide Bay region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics, isolated showers and thunderstorms about the eastern interior. Isolated afternoon showers further west. Fine over the western interior of the state. Light to moderate NW winds across the tropics and along the NE tropical coast. Moderate to fresh SE/NE winds further south. Light winds over the interior. Forecast for Saturday The upper low sits offshore from the Capricornia region. Rain areas continuing over the southeast with moderate to heavy falls about the Wide Bay coast. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms generally over the eastern interior, decreasing to isolated afternoon showers further west. Thunderstorm activity extending further south across the NW district. Remaining fine over the remainder of the interior. Forecast for Sunday The upper level low moves back inland over the Capricorn region. Rain areas continuing over the southeast with some moderate to heavy falls about the southern part of the SE coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms continuing over the eastern interior. Isolated afternoon showers generally over the eastern half of the state. Increased thunderstorm activity over the NW of the state with moderate to heavy falls. Fine over the remainder of the interior. Forecast for Monday The upper level low moves over the central interior with further rain areas over the southeast but spreading across the southern Darling Downs. Showers generally over the eastern half of the state. No change in the tropics. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The upper low weakens and moves south into New South Wales while a firm ridge builds along the southeast coast. Rain areas continuing over the SE region on Tuesday, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the state. By Wednesday, rain easing to showers over the SE region, showers and thunderstorms generally over the remainder of the state. By Thursday, Showers decreasing over the SE region, showers and thunderstorms over the remainder of Queensland. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
