MELBOURNE - Jan 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak monsoonal trough occurs over Cape York Peninsula. An upper level low is developing over southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Scattered showers and thunderstorms across the tropics and along the Central Coast, tending more isolated about the eastern and northern interior. Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms about the east coast south of St Lawrence, becoming heavy about the eastern Wide Bay and Burnett and the Southeast Coast district. Fine over central and southwest parts. Light to moderate NE to NW winds in the north and east, tending S to SE inland. Forecast for Friday Rain areas generally over the southeast with moderate to heavy falls over the eastern Wide Bay region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics, tending isolated about the southeast interior. Isolated afternoon showers along the Central Coast and a large fine area over the interior. Light to moderate SE to E winds along much of the east coast, tending S to SE inland and W to NW in the far north. Forecast for Saturday The upper low sits offshore from the Capricornia region. Rain areas continuing over the southeast with moderate to heavy falls possible about the Wide Bay coast. Isolated afternoon showers generally over the eastern interior, with thunderstorms possible about the Capricornia. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and northwest. Fine over a large area of the interior. Forecast for Sunday The upper low remains offshore from the Capricornia region. Rain areas continuing over the southeast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southeast interior and southern tropics, tending more scattered about the tropics and northwest. Isolated showers about the central east coast and adjacent inland. Fine over the interior. Forecast for Monday The upper level low is forecast to move over the central interior by Monday with further rain over the southeast and spreading across the southern Darling Downs. Showers through central eastern districts and thunderstorms over the tropics. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The upper low weakens and moves south into New South Wales while a firm ridge builds along the southeast coast. Rain areas in the southeast, easing to showers by Thursday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about southern and eastern districts, extending into western parts by Thursday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
