Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system straddling Bass Strait will drift southeastwards across the Tasman Sea today. A trough of low pressure will reach western Victoria on Friday afternoon and will cross the remainder of the State overnight and during Saturday. A ridge of high pressure will develop south of Tasmania on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayFine apart from isolated early morning drizzle about the East Gippsland coast. A warm day in the south, hot in the north. Light to moderate east to northeast wind and fresh afternoon coastal sea breezes along the Gippsland coast.Friday 7 JanuaryGenerally hot with moderate to fresh northerly winds ahead of a cooler southwest change reaching the far southwest during the late afternoon. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms near the change.Saturday 8 JanuaryWarm to hot in the north and east with moderate to fresh northerly winds, but cooler southwest winds over the southwest gradually extending throughout. Isolated showers mainly near and following the change, tending scattered in the southwest. Isolated thunderstorms near the change.Sunday 9 JanuaryIsolated showers in the east and developing in the north during the afternoon. Dry in the southwest. Mild in the south, warm in the north. Moderate southeasterly winds, fresh about the coast during the afternoon.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Thursday.Product IDV10310
