MELBOURNE - Jan 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak monsoonal trough occurs over Cape York Peninsular. An upper level low is developing over southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Rain areas and thunderstorms across the tropics, showers about the central coast increasing this afternoon with thunderstorms. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the southern tropics through central districts and the Darling Downs. Early rain over the SE region tending to increasing showers and thunderstorms this afternoon with moderate to heavy falls. Fine over the west. Light to moderate NE to NW winds in the north and east, tending S to SE inland. Forecast for Friday The upper low moves into the Capricornia region. Rain areas generally over the SE region with moderate to heavy falls over the Wide Bay region. Showers and thunderstorms continuing over the tropics and over eastern districts generally. Thunderstorms and showers decreasing about the central coast and inland. A large fine area over the western interior. Forecast for Saturday The upper level low persists through the Capricornia region. Rain areas continuing over the SE with moderate to heavy falls about the Wide Bay coast. Isolated afternoon showers generally over the eastern interior. Thunderstorm activity will extend further south over the NW district. Fine over a large area of the interior. Forecast for Sunday The upper level low moves back inland over the Capricornia region. Rain areas continuing over the SE. Isolated showers generally over eastern districts. Little change elsewhere in the state. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday As the upper level low moving over the central interior by Monday with further rain over the SE and spreading across the southern Darling Downs. Showers through central eastern districts and thunderstorms over the tropics. By Tuesday, much the same pattern across the state. By Wednesday thunderstorms extending further south into the Channel Country from the north, easing precipitation over the SE. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
