Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving weak high pressure system is centred west of Tasmania. A broad trough of low pressure lies over inland New South Wales and a low is over the central Tasman Sea. The trough is expected to weaken and contract northwards on Thursday as a high strengthens over the the southern Tasman Sea and extends a ridge along the New South Wales coast. An upper trough moving over New South Wales today will remain over eastern Australia, with an upper low expected to develop within it over southern Queensland on Friday. Meanwhile a strong Low is expected to move into the southern Bight, extending a trough northwards over South Australia.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms in the northeast, increasing to rain areas late in the evening. Showers and thunderstorms in central and southeastern parts during the afternoon. Fine elsewhere. Southeast to southwest winds.Thursday 6 JanuaryRain areas in the northeast, heavy in the far northeast corner. Scattered showers from the Mid North Coast to the North West Slopes. Isolated showers on the remainder of the coast, ranges and western slopes extending to the far east of the Upper Western. Isolated thunderstorms throughout the northeast, extending to the upper Hunter, Central Tablelands and far east of the Upper Western. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds.Friday 7 JanuaryIsolated showers in the northeast, tending scattered about the northern coast. Chance of isolated showers in the Sydney Metropolitan and the Hunter. Fine elsewhere. East to northeast winds, turning westerly in the far west.Saturday 8 JanuaryIsolated showers in the northeast possibly extending to the Central Ranges and south to the Illawarra and tending scattered about the northern coast. Isolated showers developing in the far southwest. Fine elsewhere. East to northeast winds, tending more northerly on the south coast and in the far southwest.Sunday 9 JanuaryIsolated showers in most areas tending scattered on the coast and ranges, particularly in the north. Fine in most of the Central West and in the east of the Upper Western. East to southeast winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Thursday.Product IDN10031
