MELBOURNE - Jan 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak ridge lies along the Queensland coast. An upper trough will move across southern districts today before developing further into a significant upper level low pressure system over eastern Queensland on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Scattered showers and thunderstorms generally over eastern and northern parts, increasing to rain areas with moderate to heavy falls late over southeastern districts and over Cape York Peninsula. Patchy rain areas and isolated thunderstorms to clear the west and southwest during the day. Light to moderate SE to NE winds in the east, tending NW to NE in the north and SW to SE inland. Forecast for Thursday Rain areas with moderate to heavy falls about the Southeast, Wide Bay and Capricornia coasts and adjacent inland, also about Cape York Peninsula. Scattered showers and thunderstorms about remaining eastern and northern districts and fine in the southwest. Light to moderate NE to NW winds in the north and east, tending SW to SE inland. Forecast for Friday The upper low moves into the Capricornia region. Rain with moderate to heavy falls continues over the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts and adjacent inland, easing about the Southeast Coast district. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about remaining eastern and northern districts, tending scattered about Cape York Peninsula. Fine in central and southwest parts. Forecast for Saturday The upper level low persists through the Capricornia region. Rain with moderate to heavy falls continues over the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts, pushing inland to the eastern Central Highlands and Coalfields. Isolated afternoon showers about remaining eastern districts and scattered showers and thunderstorms in the north and northwest. Fine through central and southwest parts. Forecast for Sunday The upper low persists through the Capricornia region. Rain with moderate to heavy falls to move over southeast Queensland. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms in remaining eastern districts, tending scattered with possible moderate to heavy falls in the north and northwest. Fine in central and southwest parts. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The upper low weakens and moves back over southern Queensland. Rain areas and possible moderate to heavy falls to continue about the southeast, isolated showers and thunderstorms about southern and eastern parts, tending scattered in the north. Remaining fine in central and southwestern parts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
