MELBOURNE - Jan 4/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A depression occurs off the SE coast and is moving further south. A weak ridge occurs over southern Queensland. A cloudband is entering the SW of the state with patchy light rain and isolated thunderstorms. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Monsoonal showers and thunderstorms over the tropics, isolated showers and thunderstorms generally across Queensland this afternoon and overnight. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms over the SW of the state. Light NW winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE/NE winds about the east coast. Light winds over the interior. Forecast for Wednesday A developing upper level trough over the interior will increase precipitation over southeast and southern Queensland during the afternoon. Becoming fine over the SW of the state with clearing patchy rain and S'ly winds. Occasional thunderstorms developing through the Warrego, Maranoa and the Darling Downs in the afternoon and will develop further to thundery rain areas by the evening and further into a large rain area over SE region overnight with moderate to heavy falls. Little change in the tropics. Forecast for Thursday The upper level trough will intensify further into an upper level low over the southern interior. This will increase the weather over the SE region. Rain areas generally over the SE region with some heavy falls. Elsewhere in the state showers an thunderstorms through the tropics and along eastern districts in the afternoon. Thunderstorm activity will tend isolated inland with a large fine area further west. Forecast for Friday The upper level low moves into the Capricorn region and weakens. Rain areas continuing over the SE region but ease. Showers and thunderstorms continuing trough the tropics and eastern districts. Thunderstorms tending isolated further inland and fine over the western interior. Forecast for Saturday The upper level low persists through the Capricorn region but the rain component has decreased to the Fraser coast. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the eastern interior, east coast and the tropics. Isolated showers remaining over the southern interior. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday By Sunday, some rain areas may continue over the SE, showers and thunderstorms remaining about the central coast and through the tropics. By Monday, showers spreading east across the southern interior, rain areas or showers over the SE. Showers and thunderstorms remaining about the central coast and the tropics. Tuesday, little change from Monday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
