MELBOURNE - Jan 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge along the east coast of Queensland is weakening as a high near New Zealand moves eastwards. The monsoon trough lies across Cape York Peninsula. A low pressure system is deepening well off the SE coast and will move away towards New Zealand today. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday The monsoon trough moves a little south over Gulf waters otherwise little change in the weather across the state. Monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms over the tropics, showers and thunderstorms generally over eastern and southeast districts. Isolated late showers and thunderstorms over the western interior. Patchy rain developing in the far west. Forecast for Wednesday A developing upper level trough over the interior will increase precipitation over southeast Queensland during the day. Thunderstorms will increase over the eastern Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs districts and merge into large rain areas with moderate to heavy falls. The rain areas will extend into the Southeast Coast district late in the day or overnight, again with moderate to heavy falls. Elsewhere clearing patchy rain in the west as a surface SW'ly wind change or trough moves through. Little change elsewhere in the state. Forecast for Thursday The developing upper level trough over eastern Queensland will deepen into an upper level low and maintain the rain areas over the southeast region. Heavier falls will gradually shift north and east during the day. Showers and thunderstorms generally across the southern tropics and central coast. A large fine area over the western interior. Monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms continuing over the tropics. Forecast for Friday The upper level low moves into the Capricorn region with rainfall easing over the southeast region. Showers remaining over the southeast and southern interior following the rain. No change in the tropics. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The upper low moves east off the Capricornia coast on Friday. The rain clears the southeast but persists about the Wide Bay through Saturday. Showers increase about the southeast again on Sunday as the upper low moves west again over southern Queensland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms otherwise over eastern Queensland. Fine in the west and monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms over the tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
