Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge along the east coast of Queensland is weakening as the high near New
Zealand moves eastwards. A  monsoon trough occurs across Cape York Peninsular. A
low pressure system occurs off the SE coast and will move further south. An
upper trough will develop over eastern Queensland over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Rain areas and thunderstorms across the tropics with moderate to heavy falls.
Showers and thunderstorms generally over eastern and southern Queensland.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western interior. Fine in the far
west of the state. Light to moderate NW winds over northern Cape York Peninsula.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The monsoon trough moves a little south over Gulf waters otherwise little
change in the weather across the state. Monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms
over the tropics, showers and thunderstorms generally over eastern and SE
districts. Isolated late showers and thunderstorms over the western interior.
Patchy rain developing in the far west.
Forecast for Wednesday
The developing upper level trough over the interior will increase
precipitation over the SE region later in the day. Thunderstorms will increase
over the Darling Downs district and merge into large rain areas and extend SE.
This will create a large rain area over the SE region at night with moderate to
heavy falls. Elsewhere clearing patchy rain in the west as a surface SW'ly wind
change or trough moves through. Little change elsewhere in the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The developing upper level trough over eastern Queensland will deepen into an
upper level low and maintain the rain areas over the SE region. Heavier falls
will gradually shift north during the day. Showers and thunderstorms generally
across the southern tropics and central coast. A large fine area over the
western interior. Monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms continuing over the
tropics.
Forecast for Friday
The upper level low moves into the Capricorn region with reducing rainfall
over the SE region.  Showers remaining over the SE and southern interior
following the rain. No change in the tropics.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
As the upper low weakens, the rain clears the SE but isolated showers and
thunderstorms follow over eastern QLD, fine in the west and monsoonal rain areas
and thunderstorms over the tropics. Showers generally over eastern districts for
Sunday with some isolated thunderstorms inland. Fine in the west. By Monday,
patchy rain across southern districts and showers generally over eastern QLD.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
