MELBOURNE - Dec 29/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea will remain there for the next few days, with a ridge extending to the mid-north coast of New South Wales. A weak cold front is passing Tasmania. An associated weak southerly change is moving slowly up the south coast of New South Wales and is likely to reach Sydney today. A stronger front will affect the south of the state during the weekend. It will then slow down, with a trough remaining over the northern inland on Tuesday and Wednesday. A hot to very hot air mass is expected to develop over the inland from Friday ahead of the front. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers in the northeast. The chance of a few afternoon showers developing about the South Coast and about the Central Tablelands. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds tending westerly in the west.Friday 31 DecemberPossible isolated showers in the northeast and southeast. Fine and mostly sunny in the remainder. Very hot over the western inland. Very warm to hot over the remainder, tempered on the coast by sea breezes. Mostly light winds, tending north to northwesterly in the far west with east to northeasterly sea breezes, freshening along central parts of the coast.Saturday 1 JanuaryIsolated showers in the northeast. isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing in the south ahead of a front approaching from the southwest. Hot to very hot ahead of the front, tempered on the coast by sea breezes. North to northwesterly winds inland, turning west to southwesterly and then southerly in the far south later. Freshening north to northeasterly winds along the coast, turning southerly in the south in the afternoon and evening.Sunday 2 JanuaryFine in the southwest. Isolated showers along the coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remainder.
