MELBOURNE - Dec 28/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure over Victoria will clear the State overnight. A high pressure system will then move rapidly through Bass Strait, reaching the Tasman Sea by Thursday night. A cold front will move across western and central Victoria later on Friday, but will not clear far northeast Victoria until later on Saturday. A high pressure system will form south of the Bight during Sunday and will extend a ridge towards Bass Strait Sunday night. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Fine. Clear over the north, but areas of cloud developing over parts of southern Victoria. Moderate to locally fresh southerly winds gradually extending northeastwards. Thursday 30 DecemberFine and mostly sunny. Mild to warm in the south and warm to hot north of the divide. Generally light winds and fresh afternoon coastal seabreezes.Friday 31 DecemberHot and dry day. North to northwesterly winds, fresh and gusty across western and central districts, shifting milder southwesterly in western and central districts in the evening.Saturday 1 JanuaryIsolated showers mainly about the northeast and eastern ranges with isolated afternoon thunderstorms. Warm to hot in the north, but milder in the south. Northerly winds persisting over the northeast of the State, but southwest to southerly winds elsewhere.Sunday 2 JanuaryFine apart from isolated coastal drizzle.
