A surface trough is located near St Lawrence and is moving north and expected

while a deep monsoonal NW airflow occurs across northern Qld. This monsoon flow
will weaken over the next few days.

isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the southern tropics and
central interior. Rain at times with thunderstorms on the central coast near
Bowen to Mackay with moderate to heavy falls. Showers or patchy rain occurring
along the Capricorn and Wide Bay coasts. Isolated showers generally over the SE
region. Fine across southern and western districts. Light to moderate NW winds
shifting SE/E along the east tropical coast in the afternoon and evening.
Moderate to fresh SE winds over southern areas becoming fresh at times along the
east coast.
Forecast for Thursday
Showers along the east coast, increasing towards the Herbert Burdekin with
moderate falls. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of the tropics.
Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the central interior.
Continuing fine across southern districts and becoming almost fine for the SE
coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast shifting NE inland.
Forecast for Friday
Showers along the east coast, increasing towards the NE tropical coast.
Showers and thunderstorms shifting towards the NW tropics but extending south
over western districts. Isolated afternoon showers generally about eastern
inland districts. Fine over the southern interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds
along the east coast shifting NE inland.
Forecast for Saturday
Showers along the east coast and increasing towards the NE tropical coast
again. Thunderstorm activity confined to the NW tropics and extending south into
the Channel Country. Fine over the southern interior but isolated showers and
thunderstorms redeveloping over the SE region. Mostly moderate SE winds along
the east coast shifting NE inland and along the southern coast in the afternoon.
The monsoon trough will again become established through Torres Strait and
enhance the shower and storms activity in this area.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Much the same pattern for Sunday although increasing showers and
thunderstorms over the SE interior and extending west across the Central
Highlands and the Darling Downs. By Monday, showers and thunderstorms will
continue to extend west across the southern interior but retreat north in the
far west. Thunderstorms with rain areas developing over Cape York. By Tuesday
precipitation increasing over the SE interior and showers and thunderstorms
covering most of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
