MELBOURNE - Dec 28/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough is located near St Lawrence and is moving north and expected near Bowen later today. A ridge of higher pressure is developing along the coast south of the trough. An upper level trough is located over western Queensland while a deep monsoonal NW airflow occurs across northern Qld. This monsoon flow will weaken over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Monsoonal showers and thunderstorms across the tropics, tending towards isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the southern tropics and central interior. Rain at times with thunderstorms on the central coast near Bowen to Mackay with moderate to heavy falls. Showers or patchy rain occurring along the Capricorn and Wide Bay coasts. Isolated showers generally over the SE region. Fine across southern and western districts. Light to moderate NW winds shifting SE/E along the east tropical coast in the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh SE winds over southern areas becoming fresh at times along the east coast. Forecast for Thursday Showers along the east coast, increasing towards the Herbert Burdekin with moderate falls. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of the tropics. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the central interior. Continuing fine across southern districts and becoming almost fine for the SE coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast shifting NE inland. Forecast for Friday Showers along the east coast, increasing towards the NE tropical coast. Showers and thunderstorms shifting towards the NW tropics but extending south over western districts. Isolated afternoon showers generally about eastern inland districts. Fine over the southern interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast shifting NE inland. Forecast for Saturday Showers along the east coast and increasing towards the NE tropical coast again. Thunderstorm activity confined to the NW tropics and extending south into the Channel Country. Fine over the southern interior but isolated showers and thunderstorms redeveloping over the SE region. Mostly moderate SE winds along the east coast shifting NE inland and along the southern coast in the afternoon. The monsoon trough will again become established through Torres Strait and enhance the shower and storms activity in this area. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Much the same pattern for Sunday although increasing showers and thunderstorms over the SE interior and extending west across the Central Highlands and the Darling Downs. By Monday, showers and thunderstorms will continue to extend west across the southern interior but retreat north in the far west. Thunderstorms with rain areas developing over Cape York. By Tuesday precipitation increasing over the SE interior and showers and thunderstorms covering most of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
