MELBOURNE - Dec 26/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation The monsoon trough extended from the north-west of the state to the south-east corner. An upper trough was moving eastwards across south-eastern Australia. A S'ly trough was moving northwards along the NSW coast and was expected to reach the Yeppoon area by late Tuesday. A ridge will become established along the southern coast in the wake of the S'ly trough. Forecast for the rest of Monday Rain areas with further moderate to heavy falls over much of the south-east. Scattered monsoonal showers and storms spreading to rain at times over northern areas of the state. Isolated showers and storms over the south-west. Moderate to fresh NW winds over most northern and eastern areas of the state . Drier SE winds over the far south-west with light to moderate SW winds elsewhere. Forecast for Tuesday Rain areas and local thunder with some moderate to heavy falls contracting into central eastern areas of the state. Monsoonal showers and storms continuing over northern areas of the state with isolated showers and storms over parts of the south-west and southern interior. Isolated showers continuing about the south-east corner in the wake of the rain. Fine over the far south-west with dry SE winds. Moderate to fresh NW winds over most northern areas of the state. Moderate to fresh S/SE winds spreading along the southern coast. Forecast for Wednesday Rain areas and local thunder with some moderate to heavy falls will contract northwards a little as the surface trough moves into the southern central coast and middle ridging becomes established across southern Qld. Monsoonal showers and storms will continue over northern areas of the state with isolated showers and storms over parts of the south-west and southern interior. Isolated showers will continue about the south-east corner in the wake of the rain. Fine over the far south-west with dry SE winds. Moderate to fresh NW winds over most northern areas of the state. Moderate to fresh S/SE winds spreading along the southern coast. Forecast for Thursday Rain areas and local thunder with some moderate falls about the south-east tropics. Showers along the remaining east coast. Scattered showers and storms over the remaining tropics and spreading into the central interior and the far south-west. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast shifting NE inland. Forecast for Friday Rain areas and local thunder with some moderate falls about the Herbert Burdekin and north tropical coast. Showers along the remaining east coast. Scattered showers and storms over the remaining tropics and over the west of the state. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast shifting NE inland. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The ridge along the east coast will weaken a little during the weekend as a new surface trough becomes established over the far south-west of the state. However, moderate SE winds and showers will continue in east coast districts. Over the interior, conditions will stabilize over southern districts, so any showers and storms will be confined to the north-west of the state as the far west north of about Boulia. Showers and storms will continue about the Gulf areas. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
