MELBOURNE - Dec 26/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A monsoonal rain depression occurs over northern Queensland with a trough extending from the low into SE Queensland. A monsoonal trough also extends north from this depression into the Gulf. Rain areas associated with the monsoonal low are now extending SE across Central Queensland and the SE districts overnight. By Monday a southern trough will move through the SE coast with a SE'ly wind change and this will shift the heavier rain north onto the Wide Bay coast and persist through Central Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Rain areas over southern and eastern districts with heavier falls through the central interior and extending into the Darling Downs and the SE coast overnight. Monsoonal showers and thunderstorms across the tropics. Isolated late showers and thunderstorms in the west. Moderate to fresh NW to NE winds about the east coast generally, Light to moderate S to SE winds over the west of the state. Forecast for Monday Little change through the tropics, rain areas continuing over southern and eastern districts. Heavier falls concentrated in a belt from about Longreach to the SE. A SE'ly wind change moving up from N.S.W will shift the heavy rain further north on the SE coast to the Sunshine coast and Wide Bay region later in the day. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms west of the rain area in western Queensland, fine in the far west. Moderate to fresh NW to N winds will occur over northern and eastern districts of the state. Freshening SE winds will develop along the SE coast in the afternoon. Forecast for Tuesday The surface trough stalls near Fraser Island but persists through the interior. Rain areas generally over southern and eastern Queensland. Concentrated heavier falls through the central interior and towards the Wide Bay coast. Monsoonal showers and thunderstorms across the tropics with a weak low forming in the southern Gulf. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the west, fine in the far west. Strong SE winds about the SE coast. Forecast for Wednesday Little change from Tuesday, the coastal trough moving north into the Capricorn while persisting through the central interior. Rain areas continuing over the central interior although weakening. Lighter rain over the SE. No change in the tropics. Fine over the SW and southern Queensland. The low over the southern Gulf moves inland and weakens. e Forecast for Thursday The rain situation finally weakens over central Queensland, little change in the tropics. Fine across southern Queensland. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday By Friday, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the southern tropics, fine across the southern half of the state. Monssonal showers and thunderstorms continuing in the tropics. By Saturday, showers and thunderstorms across the tropics and now extending south through the west of the state. Fine over the east and south. By Sunday, similar to Saturday with isolated showers developing about the east coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
