Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 25/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
Tropical Cyclone Tasha, low Cat 1, crossed the coast just south of Cairns at
early this morning and will weaken as it moves inland as a rain depression. By
Monday the remains of the system will be located over the central interior of
the state. A S'ly wind surge will spread along the far southern coast of Qld
late Monday and during Tuesday. Monsoonal W'ly winds will continue across the
tropics.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Further rain and local thunder, heavy at times, over the south-east tropics
and the south-east of the state. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms
will occur over parts of the far south-west and far west of the state. Generally
scattered showers and thunderstorms across the northern and north-west tropics.
Moderate to fresh W/NW winds over the northern tropics. Moderate to fresh E to
NE winds over most remaining areas.
Forecast for Sunday
Rain areas and local thunder with some moderate to heavy falls continuing
over the south-east of the stay and the far south-east tropics. Isolated showers
and storms over parts of the south-west and far west of the state. Scattered
monsoonal showers and storms elsewhere. Moderate to fresh NW to NE winds over
eastern areas of the state. Generally light to moderate S/SE winds over the west
of the state.
Forecast for Monday
The remains of the tropical cyclone will be absorbed into the inland trough
which will extend from the north-west of the state to the south-east. Generally
fine conditions will occur over the south-west and west of the state where drier
S/SE wins. Further rain areas and local thunder with some moderate to heavy
falls will occur over the south-east of the state while scattered monsoonal
showers and storms will occur over much of the tropics. Moderate to fresh NW/N
winds will occur over northern and eastern districts of the state. Strong S/SE
winds will develop along the far southern coast late in the day.
Forecast for Tuesday
The inland trough will drift westwards while the coastal trough will come to
a halt about the northern Wide Bay coast. So further rain, showers and storms
with some moderate to heavy falls will occur north and east of the surface
troughs and south of about the Bowen area. Monsoonal showers and storms will
continue over the northern and north-west tropics. Showers will occur along the
southern coast and adjacent inland in the wake of the coastal trough. Fine
conditions will continue over the south-west of the state where dry SE winds.
Fresh to strong S/SE winds will continue after the passage of the coastal trough
while moderate to fresh NW/N winds will continue over the north of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The inland trough will drift a little further westwards while the coastal
trough will remain near stationary or slip southwards a little. At the same time
the upper trough will strengthen a little over the west of the state. So rain
areas, showers and storms with some moderate to heavy falls will continue over
the south-east and spread westwards into the southern interior. Monsoon showers
and storms will continue over remaining northern and north-west areas of the
state. Fine conditions will prevail over the south-west.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The inland trough will slip westwards out of the state while the middle
trough will move into the south-west. So the rain areas, showers and storms will
move westwards into central and western areas of the state. Showers will occur
along the southern coast while monsoonal showers and storms will occur across
the remaining tropics.  Mostly fine conditions will develop over the south-east
inland.
