MELBOURNE - Dec 24/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system will be over the Tasman Sea tonight. A low pressure trough will drift over Victoria on Christmas Day as a cold front moves over Tasmania. Another cold front will approach Tasmania late on Boxing Day and move quickly across Bass Strait. The next high pressure ridge will extend across Bass Strait later on Monday, reaching the Tasman Sea on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayFine. Mainly clear. Generally light southeasterly winds with evening coastal sea breezes.Saturday 25 DecemberMostly fine. Cloud increasing from the west. Isolated afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms developing about the eastern ranges. A mild to warm day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds turning southerly in southern and western areas. Isolated showers developing near the west coast later in the day.Sunday 26 DecemberIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms about the eastern ranges clearing later in the day. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts. Mild in the south, warm in the north with moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Monday 27 DecemberIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to the coast during the day. Cool in the south, mild in the north with fresh southwesterly winds.Tuesday 28 DecemberFine apart from isolated morning showers about the South Gippsland coast.
