MELBOURNE - Dec 23/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough lies over northeastern New South Wales, with a secondary trough offshore in the far northeast. The offshore trough should continue in place for the next three or four days. A high pressure system over the Bight is moving east and is expected to move east of Bass Strait on Friday extending a ridge towards the north coast. Another cold front is expected to enter the state during Saturday and cross most of the state on Sunday bringing unstable conditions to most districts. Longer term a monsoonal trough is developing over Queensland and this may bring further rain areas to northeastern parts on Wednesday and Thursday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas in the northeast with the chance of thunderstorms. The chance of late showers about the central coast. Fine elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds, tending light and variable in the central inland parts.Friday 24 DecemberRain areas in the northeast tending widespread on the north coast and adjacent ranges. The chance of thunderstorms along the Queensland border regions. Isolated showers developing over the remainder of the northeast. Possible early drizzle on the eastern slopes of the southern and central ranges. Mostly sunny over the remainder.East to southeast winds, tending northeast along the southern half of the coast.Saturday 25 DecemberRain areas in the northeast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms, chiefly afternoon, over the remaining northeastern third, and also about the southeastern border region. Mostly sunny over much of the remainder. Warm to hot northwest winds tempered along the coast by afternoon sea breezes.Sunday 26 DecemberFine in the southwest. Rain in the far northeast and isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remainder, tending scattered about the southeastern quarter of the state.
