Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 21/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine,
Balonne, Moonie, Paroo, Warrego, Mary,  the Fitzroy River basin, lower Brisbane
River, the Burnett Catchment, Mary River and Cooper Creek, Laidley and Warrill
Creeks and the Bremer River.

Weather Situation
A surface trough was located off the Queensland coast south of about
Townsville. A weak monsoon trough extended across northern Cape York Peninsula.
A high pressure system is located over the Great Australian Bight. A deep low in
the southern Tasman Sea will move southeast on Tuesday night.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms across the southern tropics into the
Capricornia. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the remaining northern
tropics. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to E winds tending moderate to
fresh about the Central Coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
Rain areas and local thunder with some moderate to heavy falls developing
about the southeast and central coast and the adjacent inland, also developing
through the eastern interior during the afternoon.. Showers and storms over the
remaining northern tropics. Fine in the southwest. Light to moderate SE to E
winds, fresh at times  on the east coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough over the interior will move into the Channel Country.
Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and the northwest. An upper
trough over central Queensland will bring rain through central and southeastern
parts with possible moderate to heavy falls, chiefly on the east coast as a
tropical low in the Coral Sea moves slowly towards the tropical coast.  Mostly
moderate SE to E winds, fresh at times about the central east coast.
Forecast for Friday
The low continues to move towards the tropical east coast. Rain areas over
much of east, central and southeast Queensland with moderate to heavy falls
chiefly about the east coast between Cardwell and Gladstone. Showers and or
storms over the remaining tropics and northwest, tending isolated in the far
southwest. Moderate SE to E winds, tending moderate to fresh on the east coast
and light to moderate NW to NE in the northern tropics.
Forecast for Saturday
The monsoonal low is forecast to cross the central east tropical coast and
move inland. Rain areas with heavy falls will continue about the east coast
between Cardwell and Bundaberg with moderate to heavy falls extending into the
adjacent inland and interior. Cloudy with showers tending to rain at times in
the south-east of the state. Scattered showers and thunderstorms about the
northern tropics, tending more isolated far southwest. Light to moderate NW to
NE winds across the far northern tropics. Moderate SE to NE winds across the
rest of the state, fresh about the Central Coast.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The monsoonal low is forecast to continue west across the northern interior
over during the outlook period. Rain areas with some heavy falls will continue
generally about the east coast, lighter about central parts. Scattered showers
and thunderstorms to continue in the north.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
