MELBOURNE - Dec 20/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine, Balonne, Moonie, Paroo, Warrego, Mary, the Fitzroy River basin, lower Brisbane River, the Burnett Catchment, Mary River and Cooper Creek, Laidley and Warrill Creeks and the Bremer River. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough was located off the Queensland coast south of about Townsville. A weak monsoon trough extended across northern Cape York Peninsula. A high pressure system is located over the Great Australian Bight. A deep low in the southern Tasman Sea will move southeast on Tuesday night. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms will stretch across the southern tropics into the Capricornia. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue over the remaining northern tropics. A few showers continuing along the east coast between about Bowen and Fraser Island. Fine elsewhere in the state. Light to moderate NW winds over the far northern tropics. Light to moderate SE winds elsewhere, tending moderate to fresh along the central coast. Forecast for Wednesday Rain areas and local thunder with some moderate to heavy falls developing about the southern and central coast and the adjacent inland. Showers and storms over the remaining northern tropics with a few showers over the central and south-east interior. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the northern tropics. Light to moderate SE to E winds elsewhere becoming fresh and possibly strong about parts of the southern and central coast. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough over the interior will move into the Channel Country. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and the northwest, easing further south to isolated afternoon showers about the southern interior. Showers generally over eastern districts, increasing to rain south of about Mackay as a tropical low in the Coral Sea is forecast to move towards the central east coast. Forecast for Friday Cloudy with rain areas, showers and moderate to heavy falls over much of the south-east and central and southern interior of the state as a monsoonal low moves towards the central tropical coast. Showers and or storms over the remaining tropics. Fine over the south-west. Light to moderate NE/N winds over the far northern tropics. Light to moderate SE/E winds elsewhere becoming fresh about the southern and central coast. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The monsoonal low is forecast to cross the central east tropical coast and move inland on Saturday before moving into the Northern Territory on Monday. Rain areas with some heavy falls will continue about the east coast between about Townsville and Bundaberg and the adjacent inland and over the central interior on Saturday and then contracting westwards during Sunday and Monday. Rain and or shower areas with only moderate falls at best will continue over remaining southern districts. Scattered showers and thunderstorms to continue over the remaining northern tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
