Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 19/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Don,
Condamine, Balonne, Moonie, Paroo, Warrego,  the Fitzroy River basin, Brisbane
River above Wivenhoe Dam, the Burnett Catchment, Mary River and Cooper Creek,
Laidley and Warril Creeks and the Bremer River.

Weather Situation
A surface trough is moving north into the tropics with contracting rain and
thunderstorms. A cold front is moving through the SE interior.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Rain and thunderstorms contracting to the tropics, patchy rain gradually
clearing the east coast south of about Mackay. Becoming dry over central and
southern interior. Freshening W/SW winds over the SE region, moderate SW/SE
winds developing about the east coast. N/NE winds over the tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the tropics, rain areas and isolated
thunderstorms across the southern tropics and developing south into the northern
Capricornia during the day. Dry over the remainder. Light to moderate SE to NE
wins across most of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The inland trough will form over the eastern interior and move southwest
generating isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the central
interior, tending more scattered in the tropics. Rain areas and showers over the
eastern interior and isolated showers redeveloping over the southeast. Dry over
the south and southwest.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough over the interior will move into the Channel Country and
extend the afternoon thunderstorms and showers further west. Thunderstorms
generally over the tropics and the NW of the state, easing to isolated afternoon
showers about the southern interior. Showers generally over eastern districts,
increasing to rain south of about Mackay as a tropical low in the Coral Sea is
forecast to move towards the central east coast.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The tropical low is forecast to approach the central coast with rain areas
about eastern districts south of about Cairns and moderate to heavy falls
possible south of about Bowen. The low will likely cross the east coast as a
weak system on Saturday between about Cardwell and St Lawrence and continue to
bring widespread rain to eastern and southeastern Queensland through the
weekend. Scattered showers and thunderstorms to continue in the northern tropics
and becoming fine in the southwest.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
