Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 19/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine,
Balonne, Moonie, Paroo, Lower Warrego, Boyne, Stuart Rivers, the Fitzroy River
basin and Degilbo and Cooper Creeks.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough extended across Queensland from the north-west to the
south-east and will move slowly north-eastwards over the next two days. A ridge
from a high to the north-east of New Zealand extended over the Coral Sea. An
upper level trough will move across Qld today and on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Cloudy with rain areas and local thunder over southern areas contracting to
the north-east during the day. Some moderate to heavy falls likely. Showers
and/or storms over most remaining areas of the state. A cool day over the west
and the southern interior where light to moderate SW to SE winds. Light to
moderate NE/NW winds over the north of the state.
Forecast for Monday
Cloudy with rain areas and local thunder over the southern tropics. Showers
and thunderstorms over the remaining tropics. Dry in the south with gusty SW to
SE winds. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
Showers and storms over much of the tropics with some rain areas across the
central tropics and redeveloping late about the Capricornia Coast. Isolated
showers developing about the remaining east coast. Fine over the southern
inland. Light to moderate SE to NE wins across most of the state. The inland
trough will begin to reform over the interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The inland trough will move into the west of the state while a new upper
trough will amplify into the state. Showers will occur along the east coast in
the onshore stream and will tend to rain at times about the east coast and
adjacent inland between about Fraser Island and the north tropical coast.
Showers and storms will continue over much of the remaining tropics. Fine
conditions will continue across the south-west where dry conditions will
continue.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough will persist over the west of the state and will maintain
unstable conditions across most of the state to the north and east of the
surface trough which will remain near stationary over the west of the state as
well. Widespread showers, rain areas and storms will continue across most of the
tropics with some moderate to heavy falls especially near the east coast.
Showers and rain areas will continue along the southern coast and adjacent
inland. Isolated showers and storms will develop near the inland trough.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Conditions will remain unsettled across the state through next weekend with
the monsoon trough becoming established across the north of the state. The upper
trough will move slowly westwards allowing a deep moist N'ly airflow to persist
across the state. So expect further areas of showers, rain and thunderstorms to
continue across the tropics and the south-east of the state. Over the south-west
of the state only isolated showers and storms are likely. Moderate to heavy
falls will continue across parts of the tropics and also about the south-east of
the state at times. A weak monsoon low may move onto or close to the north
tropical coast by next weekend.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
