Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 18/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine,
Balonne, Paroo, Lower Warrego, Moonie, Dawson, Fitzroy Rivers and the Cooper
Creek.

Weather Situation
A surface trough occurs across interior Queensland from the NW to the SE and
will move slowly NE during the day. An upper level trough will develop in the
west and this will increase the weather over eastern Queensland this afternoon
and overnight.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Rain areas increasing over southern Queensland but contracting NE during the
day. Rain and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls through the central
interior, extending into the SE region. Showers and thunderstorms over the
tropics generally. A cool day over the west and the southern interior where
light to moderate SW to SE winds. Light to moderate NE/NW about the east coast
generally.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will move into the southern tropics with clearing weather.
Dry over south, SE and central interior. Rain and thunderstorms across the
southern tropics with moderate to heavy falls. Continuing  showers and
thunderstorms over the tropics.  Below average temperatures will occur over
southern districts where dry light to moderate SW to SE winds. Light winds in
the northern tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
Rain and thunderstorms persisting through the southern tropics as the surface
trough stalls. Showers and thunderstorms over the tropics. Dry through most of
the interior and the SE. Rain redeveloping about the central coast overnight.
Some isolated showers developing about the SE coast overnight. Light to moderate
SE to NE wins across most of the state. Below average temperatures will continue
over most southern inland districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough moves back inland with showers and thunderstorms
developing over the interior in the afternoon. Showers and rain areas over the
eastern interior. Isolated showers developing back west through the SE region.
Conditions will remain fine over the south-west of the state.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop further SW over
the state on Thursday as the surface trough moves into the Channel Country. Some
patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms over the eastern interior. Showers
generally about the east coast, increasing on the NE tropical coast as SE winds
freshen. By Friday,  monsoon trough will slip southwards across the northern
tropics. A tropical low will move into the Southern Coral Sea from the NE with
rain areas developing about the NE tropical coast. Patchy rain and isolated
thunderstorms over most of the eastern interior. Showers and thunderstorms in
the west. By Saturday, the tropical low will increase the rainfall on the NE
tropical coast with some heavy falls. Little change elsewhere in the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
