MELBOURNE - Dec 18/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine, Balonne, Paroo, Lower Warrego, Moonie, Dawson, Fitzroy Rivers and the Cooper Creek. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough extended from the north-west of the state to the south-east corner and is expected to remain near stationary at first before moving northwards during Monday and Tuesday. Weak ridging extended onto the eastern tropics from a high north-east of New Zealand. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Cloudy with patchy rain in the south and south-west. Isolated showers and/or thunderstorms elsewhere becoming scattered about the south-east and central interior. Light to moderate NE to NW winds shifting SW to SE over southern Queensland. Forecast for Sunday Cloudy with rain areas and thunderstorms across southern areas of the state contracting north-eastwards during the day. Some moderate to heavy falls likely over the south-east and central interior especially during the late afternoon and overnight. Showers and storms over remaining northern areas of the state. Clearing conditions spreading across the south-west and southern interior during the day. A cool day over the west and the southern interior where light to moderate SW to SE winds. Light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Monday The surface trough will move north-eastwards into the southern tropics resulting in clearing conditions continuing to spread across much of southern Qld and the southern inland tropics. Showers and storms will continue north of the surface trough with thundery rain areas about the central tropics due to the presence of a weakening upper trough. Below average temperatures will occur over southern districts where dry light to moderate SW to SE winds. Light winds in the northern tropics. Forecast for Tuesday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over much of the tropics with some thundery rain areas about the central tropics. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers developing about the southern coast. Light to moderate SE to NE wins across most of the state. Below average temperatures will continue over most southern inland districts. Forecast for Wednesday Further showers and storms will occur over the tropics and sultry conditions continue. The inland trough will reform over the central and southern interior of the state and will trigger isolated showers and storms over the central and southern interior and the south-east inland. Conditions will remain fine over the south-west of the state. A few showers will occur along the southern coast in the onshore airflow. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The monsoon trough will slip southwards across the northern tropics. So showers, storms and rain areas will become more widespread with some moderate to heavy falls developing. Showers will occur along the remaining east coast and will increase from Friday onwards as the depth of flow onto the coast increases. Some moderate falls will develop about the Central coast area. Over the inland, showers and storms will continue triggered by the inland trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
