Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 18/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine,
Balonne, Paroo, Lower Warrego, Moonie, Dawson, Fitzroy Rivers and the Cooper
Creek.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough extended from the north-west of the state to the south-east
corner and is expected to remain near stationary at first before moving
northwards during Monday and Tuesday. Weak ridging extended onto the eastern
tropics from a high north-east of New Zealand.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Cloudy with patchy rain in the south and south-west. Isolated showers and/or
thunderstorms elsewhere becoming scattered about the south-east and central
interior. Light to moderate NE to NW winds shifting SW to SE over southern
Queensland.
Forecast for Sunday
Cloudy with rain areas and thunderstorms across southern areas of the state
contracting north-eastwards during the day. Some moderate to heavy falls likely
over the south-east and central interior especially during the late afternoon
and overnight. Showers and storms over remaining northern areas of the state.
Clearing conditions spreading across the south-west and southern interior during
the day. A cool day over the west and the southern interior where light to
moderate SW to SE winds. Light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will move north-eastwards into the southern tropics
resulting in clearing conditions continuing to spread across much of southern
Qld and the southern inland tropics. Showers and storms will continue north of
the surface trough with thundery rain areas about the central tropics due to the
presence of a weakening upper trough. Below average temperatures will occur over
southern districts where dry light to moderate SW to SE winds. Light winds in
the northern tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over much of the tropics with some
thundery rain areas about the central tropics. Fine elsewhere apart from
isolated showers developing about the southern coast. Light to moderate SE to NE
wins across most of the state. Below average temperatures will continue over
most southern inland districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
Further showers and storms will occur over the tropics and sultry conditions
continue. The inland trough will reform over the central and southern interior
of the state and will trigger isolated showers and storms over the central and
southern interior and the south-east inland. Conditions will remain fine over
the south-west of the state. A few showers will occur along the southern coast
in the onshore airflow.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The monsoon trough will slip southwards across the northern tropics. So
showers, storms and rain areas will become more widespread with some moderate to
heavy falls developing. Showers will occur along the remaining east coast and
will increase from Friday onwards as the depth of flow onto the coast increases.
Some moderate falls will develop about the Central coast area. Over the inland,
showers and storms will continue triggered by the inland trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
