Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 17/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine,
Balonne, Paroo, Lower Warrego, Moonie, the Fitzroy River Basin and the Cooper
Creek.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge lies off the Queensland east coast. A surface trough lies over
southern Queensland, slow moving.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Cloudy with patchy rain in the south and southwest. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms elsewhere, becoming scattered about the southeast and central
interior. Isolated showers about the tropical and central coasts. Cool in the
southwest of the state. Light to moderate NE to NW winds, tending SW to SE over
southern Queensland.
Forecast for Sunday
The surface trough remains stationary over the state. Patchy rain in the
southwest, becoming heavier from the northwest to southeast with local thunder
with moderate falls. Showers and thunderstorms elsewhere, becoming scattered
about the southeast and central areas. A cool to cold day over the west and the
southern interior.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough moves northwards to the tropics, clearing the weather
about southern Queensland. Rain areas contract northwards with moderate falls
about the tropics. Showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening for
all areas north of the trough. Dry and cooler in the south of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms about most tropical
areas. Isolated showers returning to the central coast and moisture increases
with onshore winds. Fine elsewhere, cool and dry in the south. A weak surface
trough redevelops about the interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The new trough moves slowly westwards, increasing moisture to western
Queensland. Showers and storms returning to the eastern areas on Wednesday,
extending further inland later in the week. Rain areas and storms about the
tropics, expected to extend to the remaining east coast by Friday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
