MELBOURNE - Dec 17/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front crossing central Bass Strait will reach eastern waters this evening, then a second cold front will cross southern Victoria early Saturday. A stronger cold front will affect the State on Sunday with an accompanying low pressure system moving across Tasmania to be over east Bass Strait by evening. The low will intensify early Monday before moving away to the southeast on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over southern and mountain districts. Partly cloudy over northern districts with isolated showers. Moderate to fresh southwest to northwest winds.Saturday 18 DecemberScattered showers in southern and mountain districts, becoming isolated and contracting to Gippsland and exposed coastal region during the afternoon. Isolated showers clearing over the north during the morning. Isolated thunderstorms in the south during the morning. A cool day with moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds.Sunday 19 DecemberScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms extending throughout. Showers becoming widespread and tending to rain about the eastern ranges later. Snow developing above 1200m on the east ranges at night. Freshening northwesterly winds shifting colder and squally southwesterly during the day.Monday 20 DecemberScattered showers in southern and mountain areas, falling as snow above 1200 metres during the morning. Isolated showers over the north. Cool with a fresh to strong southwesterly wind.Tuesday 21 DecemberScattered showers on and south of the ranges at first, becoming isolated and contracting to the southwest coast during the day. Fine and mainly sunny in the north.
