MELBOURNE - Dec 17/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine, Balonne, Paroo, Lower Warrego, Moonie, the Fitzroy River Basin and the Cooper Creek. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak ridge lies off the Queensland east coast. A surface trough lies over western Queensland, moving slowly into SE Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Friday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over most of Queensland from the NW to the SE this afternoon and evening. Fine generally over the west with a little patchy rain in the far south. Light to moderate NE/SE winds along the east coast . Light to moderate N/NW winds over the interior tending SW/SE west of the inland trough. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough remains almost stationary from the NW to the SE of the state with showers and thunderstorms generally north of the trough including the tropics. Thunderstorms increasing near the trough through the central interior in the afternoon and evening with moderate to heavy falls. Patchy rain increasing across southern districts. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough remains stationary over the state but the weather increases over southern and central Queensland as the next upper level trough approaches western QLD. Showers and thunderstorms generally north of the trough, rain and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls over the central interior. Increasing rain areas over southern QLD with thundery rain over the SE. A cool to cold day over the west and the southern interior. Forecast for Monday The surface trough finally moves through the SE and reaches the Capricorn and southern tropics with clearing weather. Becoming fine over the west, south and the SE. Rain areas and thunderstorms over the southern tropics and the Central district. Showers and thunderstorms further north generally. Forecast for Tuesday The surface trough will move into the southern tropics with rain areas and thunderstorms, showers and thunderstorms generally over Cape York Peninsular. Fine over most of the interior south of the trough. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The trough mill move into the tropics with rain and thunderstorms developing back southwards on Wednesday. Rain areas continuing to develop southwards for Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms over north parts and rain areas and thunderstorms extending further south for Friday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
