MELBOURNE - Dec 15/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine, Balonne, Paroo, Warrego, Moonie, the Fitzroy River Basin, Cooper and Baffle Creeks. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A cold front is moving through Victoria with a trough extending north into central Australia to the heat low over Western Australia. A weak high lies off the southern Queensland coast. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Showers and thunderstorms across the state apart from the far southwest, mostly afternoon and evening. Thunderstorm areas becoming scattered about the southeast and far north. Light to moderate N to NE winds along the east coast, tending NE to NW inland. Winds S to SW in the far southwest of the state. Forecast for Friday The surface trough in the southwest of the state will move slowly east, reaching the southeast corner late in the day. Isolated showers and thunderstorms generally in a band from the NW to the SE, increasing towards the SE and in the northern tropics. Cloud increasing in the southwest of the state, with possible late patchy rain. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough is almost stationary across the state, but a coastal trough will move through the far southeast as a SE'ly wind change. Patchy rain develops across southern districts from the west south of the trough axis. To the north of the trough, showers and thunderstorms, increasing towards the SE with increasing rainfall. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough remains stationary across the interior but falls back south on the SE coast with winds shifting from the SE to the NE. A new upper level trough will develop over the west and this will increase the rain areas over central and SE parts of the state with some heavy falls. Lighter patchy rain across southern Queensland. Showers and thunderstorms over the tropics. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Rain areas and thunderstorms will contract northwards during Monday and Tuesday, with fine conditions expected around the state apart from the tropics and central coast areas. Showers and storms returning to areas in a band from the NW to SE parts of the state from Wednesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
