MELBOURNE - Dec 15/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine, Balonne, Paroo, Warrego, Moonie, the Fitzroy River Basin, Cooper and Baffle Creeks. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A cold front is moving through Victoria with a trough extending north into central australia to the heat low over Western Australia. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over eastern Queensland, including Cape York Peninsular this afternoon and evening. Dry over western Queensland. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending NW to NE inland. A new surface trough will enter the far SW of the state overnight with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough will move into central Queensland and reach the western Darling Downs late in the day. Thunderstorm activity will increase over the SE region tomorrow afternoon otherwise showers and thunderstorms generally from the NW to the SE of the state. Isolated afternoon showers the southern tropics. No change in the tropics. Fine in the SW of the state with S'ly winds. Light to moderate N to NE winds along the east coast, tending NE to NW inland east of the surface trough. Forecast for Friday The surface trough slows down, almost stationary over central Queensland, however continues to move across the Darling Downs. Isolated showers and thunderstorms generally in a band from the NW to the SE, increasing towards the SE. Dry across the south and west of the state. Isolated afternoon showers only over parts of the central coast and eastern interior. Little change in the tropics. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough is almost stationary across the state, however the coastal component on the trough on northern N.S.W coast moves north through the SE coast with a SE'ly wind change. Patchy rain develops across southern districts from the west south of the trough axis. To the north of the trough, showers and thunderstorms, increasing towards the SE with increasing rainfall. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough remains stationary across the interior but falls back south on the SE coast with winds shifting from the SE to the NE. A new upper level trough will develop over the west and this will increase the rain areas over central and the SE with some heavy falls. Lighter patchy rain across southern QLD. Little change in the tropics. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Rain areas and thunderstorms will contract further north across the central interior of Queensland, fine over the south. Becoming dry over the SE with SW winds. Showers and thunderstorms generally across the tropics. By Tuesday, much the same although rainfall increasing about the central coast. Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms start to slip back inland towards the SW on Wednesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
