Weather Situation A weak high pressure ridge over western NSW is drifting slowly east, while a low has developed within a trough off the Queensland coast. This low will drift slowly southeast during next few days as the high moves across the Tasman Sea towards New Zealand. On Tuesday, warmer and more humid winds interact with an upper level trough to generate shower activity across the east of the state. A low pressure trough will bring a few showers and thunderstorms as it moves through western and southern districts during Wednesday while instability lingers in the northeast. Showers are likely to increase over eastern districts on Thursday as the trough reaches the east, followed by showers contracting to the northeast and clearing for the remainder of the State during Friday. Further showers are possible across the region during the weekend as a low develops to the south, although the positioning of this is currently uncertain. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Isolated showers in the east, tending scattered about the central ranges and in the northeast. Isolated thunderstorms in the northeast and about the tablelands. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Mostly north to northeasterly winds inland, southeast to northeasterly on the coast. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated showers in the west, extending east and becoming scattered about the western slopes of the southern ranges. Isolated showers lingering in the northeast. The chance of thunderstorms through most areas. Hot in the western inland. Northeast to northwest winds, before a southwest change in the southwest. Forecast for Thursday Fine in the west and far northeast. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms elsewhere, clearing from the west although becoming scattered from the ranges towards the coast. Northeast to northwest winds in the northeast, with a south to southwest change extending through remaining districts. Forecast for Friday Isolated morning showers clearing on the central and southern parts of the coast and adjacent ranges. Scattered showers in the northeast with the chance of thunderstorms. Fine elsewhere. Southwest to northwest winds inland, tending northeast to northwest near the coast. Forecast for Saturday Isolated showers in the north and far southeast, tending scattered in the northeast. Fine elsewhere. Southwest to northwest winds, tending northeast to southeast along parts of the coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Wednesday. * Calls to 1300 numbers cost around 27.5c incl. GST, higher from mobiles or public phones.
