MELBOURNE - Dec 13/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Cherwell, Burrum, Flinders, Barcoo, Bulloo, Condamine, Balonne, Mary, Paroo, Warrego and Weir Rivers, the Fitzroy River Basin and Cooper and Baffle Creeks. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weakening high pressure system northeast of New Zealand extends a ridge over the Coral Sea and along the tropical east coast of Queensland. A weak low lies off the southeast Queensland coast east of Fraser Island. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms continuing over eastern districts in the afternoon and evening, increasing over Cape York Peninsula though tending to isolated showers about the southeast coast and scattered showers about the tropical east coast. Fine over central and western Queensland. Mostly light to moderate S to SE winds inland, tending SE to NE about the east coast and moderate S to SE about the southeast coast. Forecast for Wednesday Conditions dry out slightly in eastern Queensland with isolated afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms expected, tending scattered about the tropics and easing to scattered showers on the tropical east coast. A new surface trough will enter the far southwest of the state late in the day and may trigger isolated late showers or thunderstorms. Fine through the remainder of central and western Queensland. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending NW to NE inland and S'ly west of the surface trough. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough will move slowly east over southwest Queensland with fine conditions in the far southwest. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the moist airmass over southern and southeast Queensland and also in the tropics, easing to scattered showers along the tropical east coast. Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms about the central east coast and Northwest district and only very isolated afternoon showers over the southern inland tropics. Forecast for Friday The surface trough sits from the northwest through to the southeast interior with moist conditions and scattered showers and thunderstorms about southeast and central Queensland, and also about the tropics through easing to scattered showers about the east coast north of Cooktown. Showers and thunderstorms tending more isolated in the southern tropics. Fine conditions southwest of the surface trough. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The surface trough realigns itself to lie between the Northwest district and the Wide Bay by Monday while a broad upper trough builds over southern Queensland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms generally northeast of the surface trough with rain areas near the trough. Fine in the far south and southwest. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
