MELBOURNE - Dec 5/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Bulloo, Condamine, Balonne and tributaries, Maranoa, Fitzroy basin, Paroo, Thomson, Barcoo, Cooper Creek and the Warrego River. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand is weakening and moving southeast. The high extends a weak ridge into the southern Coral Sea. A weak trough is located off the Queensland east coast and generally moist NE winds exist across most of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Monday Scattered showers and thunderstorms generally over central and eastern Queensland, easing to scattered showers about the Southeast Coast and isolated showers about the northeast tropics. High cloud in western Queensland with little or no rain and very isolated high-based thunderstorms. Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the east coast, tending mostly light and variable inland. Forecast for Tuesday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of Queensland, tending more isolated in drier air in the far west, over Cape York Peninsula and the southeast interior. Isolated showers about the northeast tropics and scattered showers about the Southeast Coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending mostly light E to NE inland. Forecast for Wednesday A high in the southern Tasman Sea will continue to direct moist SE to NE winds onto the east coast with humid conditions over much of the state while a surface trough enters the far southwest. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of Queensland, tending more isolated west of the trough, and about the eastern interior. Scattered showers about the northeast tropics and the Southeast Coast. Forecast for Thursday The high in the Tasman Sea will maintain moist SE to NE winds along the east coast with humid conditions persisting over much of the state and the surface trough stalling in the far southwest. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of Queensland, tending more isolated about the eastern interior. Scattered showers about the northeastern tropics and the Southeast Coast. Fine in the far southwest. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The high will weaken and move slowly east across the Tasman Sea while the surface trough will extend from the northwest of the state to the southeast by Saturday. Humid conditions with scattered showers and thunderstorms forecast to the east of the trough with fine conditions developing over the west and south of the state in the wake of the trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
