Weather Situation
A high pressure system near New Zealand is weakening and moving south-east.
The high extends a weak ridge into the southern Coral Sea. A weak trough is
located off the Queensland east coast and generally moist NE winds exist across
most of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Rain areas will clear the southeast early. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
will occur over most eastern districts, the tropics and into the Maranoa and
Warrego. Mostly fine conditions in the west though some high cloud entering the
southwest with little or no rain. Mostly light E to NE winds about the east
coast, tending moderate to fresh NE in the southeast. Mostly light and variable
winds inland.
Forecast for Monday
A new high will develop in the far southern Tasman Sea as a trough system
moves across South Australia. Some morning drizzle or rain to clear the
Southeast Coast early. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most eastern
districts, the tropics and into the Maranoa and Warrego. Fine in the west apart
from some high cloud and little or no rain over the Channel Country. Light to
moderate E to NE winds on the east coast and mostly light and variable winds
inland.
Forecast for Tuesday
The trough will approach the far south-west of the state while the high over
the far southern Tasman Sea will continue to direct moist NE to N winds across
the state. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of Queensland, tending
more isolated in a drier airmass in the far west.
Forecast for Wednesday
The trough will enter the far south-west of the state while the high over the
far southern Tasman Sea will continue to direct moist NE to N winds across the
state. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of Queensland, tending more
isolated west of the trough in the southwest.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high will move only slowly east across the Tasman Sea while the surface
trough will extend from the north-west of the state to the south-east by
Saturday. So moist conditions with scattered showers and thunderstorms forecast
to the east of the trough, with fine conditions developing over the west of the
state in the wake of the trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
