Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 3/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for the Bulloo, Thomson, Barcoo,
Paroo, Warrego, Cooper Creek and the Fitzroy River Basin.

Weather Situation
A weakening high pressure system near New Zealand was moving to the
south-east. The high extended a ridge into the southern Coral Sea. A weak trough
was located off the southern east tropical coast and the Capricornia Coast.
Generally moist NE winds circulated across most of Qld.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Rain areas over the south-east corner of the state contracting slowly
southwards. Some moderate to heavy falls possible chiefly about the coast and
ranges. Showers and storms over remaining eastern districts of the state with
some moderate falls. Fine over the west of the state. Light winds in the tropics
with mostly light to moderate NE winds elsewhere becoming moderate to fresh
about the coast south of Yeppoon.
Forecast for Sunday
Rain areas clearing from the south-east corner during the morning with
showers and storms persisting during the afternoon and evening. Showers and
storms over remaining eastern districts and about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Fine
in the west. Light winds in the tropics with mostly light to moderate NE winds
elsewhere becoming moderate to fresh about the coast south of about Fraser
Island.
Forecast for Monday
A new high will become established over the far southern Tasman Sea and will
continue to direct moist light to moderate NE winds across most of the state.
Showers and storms will occur over most eastern districts of the state. A new
middle cloud band with little or no rain will move into the far south-west .
Fine conditions will continue elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will remain anchored over the far southern Tasman Sea as a new
trough system moves across South Australia. Moist NE to N winds will spread
across the entire state resulting in showers and/or storms occurring in most
districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The trough system will enter the far south-west of the state while the high
over the far southern Tasman Sea will continue to direct moist NE to N winds
across the state. Showers and/or storms will again occur in most districts of
the state with the main focus over the west of the state near the surface
trough.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high will move only slowly eastwards while the surface trough will, by
the end of the week, extend from the north-west of the state to the south-east.
So moist E to N winds will continue to be circulated into and across Qld.
Showers and/or storms will occur in most districts to the north and east of the
surface trough. Fine conditions will develop over the west of the state in the
wake of the trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
