Weather Situation
A slow moving high pressure system [1028hPa] over the southern Tasman Sea
extends a ridge into the southern Coral Sea. A weak trough lies near the east
coast south of Yeppoon and extends inland to southern interior parts.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
The trough extending across SE Queensland will cause scattered showers and
rain areas south of Rockhampton and east of Charleville. Moderate to heavy
falls likely about the Wide Bay, Darling Downs and eastern Warrego and Maranoa
districts. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the eastern
districts north of Rockhampton and also over southern Warrego and Channel
Country. Fine in the west. Mostly light winds in the tropics tending light to
moderate SW to SE in the west and moderate to fresh E to NE about the coast
south of Yeppoon.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper trough causing the rain areas will shift southeastwards causing the
rain areas to become concentrated about the Southeast Coast and eastern Darling
Downs district. Moderate to heavy falls likely. Isolated afternoon showers and
thunderstorms about the southeast interior, eastern districts and through the
tropics. Fine in the west. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, tending fresh about
the coast south of Fraser Island.
Forecast for Monday
A high pushes into the southern Tasman Sea and reinforces the ridge across
eastern Queensland while both the upper and surface troughs are forecast to move
off the southeast coast during the day with rain areas easing to showers over
the southeast during the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the east
and through the tropics. Fine in the west.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high remains over the southern Tasman Sea while a new trough system
enters western Queensland and increases instability across the state. Isolated
showers likely about the coastal regions with isolated afternoon showers and
thunderstorms across most of the inland and interior areas.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high will remain slow moving over the southern Tasman Sea while a surface
trough remains in western Queensland. Showers and thunderstorms are expected
over western and northern Queensland ahead of the trough with scattered showers
and isolated thunderstorms in the east.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
