MELBOURNE - Nov 28/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Bulloo, Thomson, Alice, Barcoo Rivers, Cooper Creek and the Warrego River and tributaries. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high pressure system [1024 hPa] over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough over western Queensland is moving slowly east. A developing upper level low over western New South Wales extends a trough west of the Queensland border. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics. Scattered showers, patchy rain and thunderstorms over the central and southern interior with moderate falls. Isolated showers and patchy light rain about the east coast south of St Lawrence. Mostly fine over the far west, only isolated showers. Moderate SE to NE winds, shifting S'ly over the west of the state. Forecast for Monday The high over the southern Tasman Sea will continue to direct moderate SE to NE winds over eastern Queensland ahead of the near stationary surface trough lying from the Gulf Country to the southern interior. Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate falls east of the trough and west of about Rockhampton to Texas. Scattered showers east of Rockhampton to Texas. Isolated showers over the southwest due to the upper trough moving slowly over far western Queensland. Isolated morning showers and thunderstorms about the northern Gulf Country. Fine over the Northwest district and northern Channel Country. A cool day over most of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The inland surface trough will remain slow moving from the eastern Gulf Country to the southern interior, while a new high will develop over the southern Tasman Sea. Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to locally heavy falls east of the trough but west of about Rockhampton to Warwick. Showers increasing from the Capricornia to the Southeast Coast, most likely to rain at times overnight, as the upper trough begins to tilt across the central and southern interior of the state. The upper low moves over the far southern Channel Country. Isolated showers over the far southwest due to lingering moisture as well as instability from the upper level low. Fine over the western Gulf Country, Northwest district and northern Channel Country. Moderate SE to NE winds east of the inland surface trough, shifting S to SE to the west. Cool daytime temperatures continuing. Forecast for Wednesday The inland surface trough will continue to lie from about the eastern Gulf Country to the southern interior, while the high will persist over the southern Tasman Sea. Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to locally heavy falls over eastern districts to the east of the trough. Showers tending to rain at times from the Capricornia to the Southeast Coast as the upper trough tilts across southeast Queensland. Predominantly fine conditions west of about Longreach and Charleville, only isolated afternoon showers are possible over the far southwest as the upper level low moves back south again over western New South Wales. Moderate SE to NE winds east of the inland surface trough, shifting S to SE to the west. Cool daytime temperatures continuing. Forecast for Thursday The inland surface trough is expected to move slowly west over the central and southern interior as the upper level low over New South Wales weakens and another upper trough nears the western border. The high will persist over the southern Tasman Sea. Scattered showers and thunderstorms continuing over the northeast tropics. Scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern interior east of the trough, though showers gradually decreasing about the Southeast Coast region. Predominantly fine conditions continuing over far western Queensland though increasing high cloud from the next upper trough. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds. Cool daytime temperatures continuing. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The high will persist over the southern Tasman Sea but weaken. The surface trough will continue to shift slowly west and weaken as the new upper trough over western Queensland begins to move slowly east. Scattered showers and thunderstorms continuing over the northeast tropics. Scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the interior, mainly over central and southern inland districts. Showers increasing about the tropical coast as a coastal trough develops. Generally isolated showers persisting about the southeast. Cool daytime temperatures continuing over eastern Queensland at least. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
