MELBOURNE - Nov 27/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Bulloo, Thomson, Alice, Barcoo Rivers, Cooper Creek and the Warrego River and tributaries. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high pressure system [1023 hPa] over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough over the interior is slowly moving east. An upper level trough is developing west of the border. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Showers and thunderstorms over the tropics generally. Early patchy rain over the central and southern interior then showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon followed by rain areas overnight with moderate falls. Showers generally about the east coat south of St Lawrence. Some possible isolated afternoon showers over the SW of the state. Becoming dry over the NW of the state. Forecast for Monday The high over the southern Tasman Sea will continue to direct moderate SE to NE winds over eastern Queensland ahead of the stationary surface trough over the interior. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics. Early rain areas over the eastern central and southern districts will be followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms then rain areas overnight with moderate falls. Decreasing thunderstorms about the southern Gulf coast and some isolated afternoon showers in the SW of the state. Fine over much of the west. Cloudy with Increasing showers over the SE region. Forecast for Tuesday Little change in the pattern from Monday, however rain areas extending a little further east across the Darling Downs with local thunder. Fine conditions about the southern Gulf coast and over western districts. Some isolated afternoon shower activity remaining in the far SW of the state. The maximum rainfall will occur within the rainband over eastern central districts near the stationary surface trough with moderate to heavy falls. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough shifts a little west and this also moves the rainband further west. Showers start to decrease about the SE coast otherwise little change over the remainder of the state. Once again the maximum rainfall will occur within the rainband near the surface trough. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday By Thursday, the pattern has not changed greatly from Wednesday but by Friday the rainband is moving back west into the Central West and the Warrego district. Showers continue to decrease over the SE region. Showers and thunderstorms also redevelop about the southern Gulf coast. By Saturday, the rainband weakens over the interior tending towards showers and thunderstorms. Showers increase on the central coast as a coastal trough forms. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
