MELBOURNE - Nov 27/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Bulloo, Thomson, Alice, Barcoo Rivers, Cooper Creek and the Warrego River and tributaries. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high pressure system [1025 hPa] over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough lies over the far west of the state as an upper level trough approaches southwest Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to locally heavy falls over western districts. Scattered showers and thunderstorms about the northern tropics. Generally isolated showers elsewhere. Moderate SE to NE winds, tending moderate to fresh and gusty S to SW over the far west. Forecast for Sunday The high over the southern Tasman Sea will continue to direct moderate SE to NE winds over eastern Queensland ahead of the surface trough moving over the west of the state with moderate S'ly winds in its wake. The surface trough combined with the upper trough over western Queensland will bring rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate falls to much of inland Queensland, clearing to isolated showers over the far west. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the tropical coast, with generally isolated showers about the southern coast and adjacent inland. Forecast for Monday The high over the southern Tasman Sea will continue to direct moderate SE to NE winds over eastern Queensland ahead of the surface trough which is expected to move slowly east and lie from the Gulf Country to the southern interior. Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate falls east of the trough and west of about Rockhampton to Texas. Scattered showers east of Rockhampton to Texas. Isolated showers over the southwest due to lingering instability from the slow moving upper trough over western Queensland. Fine over the Northwest district and northern Channel Country. Forecast for Tuesday The inland surface trough will remain slow moving from the eastern Gulf Country to the southern interior, while a new high will develop over the southern Tasman Sea. Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to locally heavy falls east of the trough but west of about Rockhampton to Warwick. Widespread showers east of Rockhampton to Texas. Isolated showers over the far southwest due to lingering instability from the slow moving upper trough over western Queensland. Fine over the western Gulf Country, Northwest district and northern Channel Country. Moderate SE to NE winds east of the inland surface trough, shifting S to SE to the west. Forecast for Wednesday The inland surface trough will lie from the eastern Gulf Country to the southern interior as the upper trough remains anchored over western Queensland. The high will persist over the southern Tasman Sea. Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate falls over eastern districts to the east of the trough, though showers will remain over the southeast coast and Wide Bay regions. Predominantly fine conditions west of about Longreach and Charleville. Moderate SE to NE winds east of the inland surface trough, shifting S to SE to the west. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The high will persist over the southern Tasman Sea but weaken. The surface trough will remain slow moving over the eastern Gulf Country, central and southern interior before shifting west and weakening on the weekend as the upper trough over western Queensland begins to move slowly east. Further areas of rain, showers and thunderstorms east of the trough over the northeast tropics and eastern interior. Moderate falls. Isolated to scattered showers about the southern coast and adjacent inland. Remaining fine west over far western Queensland at this stage.
