MELBOURNE - Nov 26/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Bulloo, Russell, Thomson, Alice, Barcoo, Cooper Creek and Warrego rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high pressure system [1025 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland coast. A trough lies over the northern Coral Sea. An upper level trough is approaching southwestern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Rain areas and thunderstorms with possible moderate falls developing west of about Longreach. Scattered showers and thunderstorms about the northwest tropics, tending isolated about Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers generally through the eastern districts, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine in the southeast interior. Moderate SE winds along the northern east coast, tending E to NE about the southern coast and eastern inland. Moderate S to SW winds developing in the far southwest. Forecast for Sunday A weak high in the Tasman Sea directs moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending N to NE about the eastern interior and moderate S'ly west of the inland trough which lies through western districts. An upper trough over western Queensland will bring rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate falls to much of inland Queensland, clearing to showers in the far west. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the eastern tropics and isolated showers generally about the southeast and adjacent inland. Forecast for Monday The inland surface trough lies from the southeast Gulf to the southern interior. Rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate falls near and east of the trough. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the tropics, easing to scattered showers about the Central Coast and more isolated showers about the southeast and adjacent inland, and also in southern parts west of the rainband. Fine in the west. Forecast for Tuesday The inland surface trough remains slow moving while a new high will develop in the Tasman Sea. Rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate falls from the Central Coast through the southeast interior. Isolated showers about the southeast, tending scattered about the southeast coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the tropics, isolated showers in southern parts west of the rainband. Fine in the west. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday A high south of Tasmania will move into the Tasman Sea and reinforce the ridge along the east coast. The surface trough will remain through central Queensland while an upper level low will persist over western New South Wales. Scattered showers and thunderstorms to persist over the tropics and eastern interior, with rain areas and moderate falls about the southern interior. Scattered showers in the southeast and fine in western districts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
