MELBOURNE - Nov 26/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for the Bulloo, Paroo, Thomson, Alice and Barcoo Rivers, the Warrego River and tributaries and Cooper Creek. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high pressure system [1026 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland coast. A trough lies over the northern Coral Sea. An upper level trough is approaching southwestern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Friday Showers and isolated thunderstorms over western districts tending to isolated afternoon and evening showers over eastern districts. Fine over the central and southern interior. Showers generally about the east coast, increasing about the NE tropical coast. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds across the state. Forecast for Saturday A new trough will enter the west with a S'ly wind change and thundery rain. The thundery rain will reach into the NW and central and southern interior by the afternoon with moderate falls. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics, showers towards the east coast. Isolated afternoon showers over the SE and eastern interior. Fine over the western Darling Downs and the Maranoa district. Moderate to fresh E/SE winds about the east coast, moderate NE/NW winds over the interior ahead of the thundery rain in the west. Becoming fine in the far west with S'ly winds. Cool daytime temperatures across much of the state, particularly in the southwest. Forecast for Sunday The western trough moves slowly east, extending from the southern Gulf region to the eastern interior with further thundery rain and moderate falls. Becoming fine over the far west and SW of the state. Showers and thunderstorms continuing over the tropics, showers about the east coast. Isolated afternoon showers over eastern inland districts. Moderate to fresh E/SE winds about the east coast tending moderate NE/NW over the interior ahead of the trough. Moderate S/SE winds in the west. Forecast for Monday The inland surface trough almost stalls and lies from the eastern Gulf through central QLD to near St George. Once again a band of thundery rain over central and southern QLD with moderate falls. Some isolated afternoon showers to follow the thundery rain in the west but fine over the far west. Showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and showers over inland eastern and SE districts. Moderate E to NE winds along the east coast, shifting N to NE over the interior ahead of the trough. Cool daytime temperatures over the interior. Forecast for Tuesday The inland surface trough falls back west through the Warrego and Central West with the thundery rain also moving back a little with further moderate falls. Showers and thunderstorms continuing over the tropics and showers over eastern districts. Fine in the west. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday A high south of Tasmania will move east and reinforce the ridge along the east coast. The surface trough will remain through central Queensland while an upper level low will persist over western New South Wales. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and interior ahead of the trough. Scattered showers and patchy rain areas elsewhere over eastern Queensland. Fine conditions with S'ly winds over western Queensland. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
