Flood warnings are current for the Bulloo, Paroo, Thomson, Alice, Barcoo, Langlo, Ward and Lower Warrego Rivers, Cooper Creek and the Fitzroy River Basin. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high pressure system [1032 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. A weakening upper level trough over the Central Coast will move eastwards during the day. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Scattered showers along the east Queensland coast, more enhanced about the tropical and Central Coast. Isolated showers likely over adjacent inland areas, mainly in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over inland tropics and Gulf Country. Fine through most of the interior with only very isolated afternoon showers through the Central West and Central Highlands. A new upper trough will begin to extend some instability over the Channel Country and SW Warrego district later with chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms developing. Forecast for Friday The high over the southern Tasman Sea combined with the trough over the northern Coral Sea will maintain moderate to fresh SE to NE winds across the state, strong on the east coast between about Cardwell and St Lawrence. Scattered showers will continue about the tropical east coast, again isolated about the southeast and adjacent inland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, tending scattered in far western districts as a new upper trough approaches from the west. Fine again through most of the interior with only very isolated showers through the Central West. Forecast for Saturday The high will weaken over the southern Tasman Sea while the low over the northern Coral Sea will deepen slightly, but begin to move eastwards away from Queensland coast. Moderate SE to NE winds across the state, fresh along the east coast and tending N'ly in the southwest ahead of an approaching surface trough. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula, tending scattered through much of western Queensland under the influence of the new upper trough. Some thundery rain areas developing across the Channel Country at night. Fine about the southeast interior and isolated showers about the remainder, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Forecast for Sunday The high will weaken and move over New Zealand while a tropical low will strengthen near east of Vanuatu. Moderate SE to E winds along the east coast, tending E to NE about the eastern inland and moderate S'ly west of a surface trough moving into central western Queensland. Isolated showers generally about the east coast and adjacent inland. The upper trough will cause a band of thundery rain areas and scattered showers with moderate falls will extend from the Gulf Country to the central and southern interior. A late clearance is expected over the far SW Channel Country in the evening. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The a weak ridge will extend onto Queensland from a high to the east of New Zealand, maintaining a generally moderate SE/NE flow over the east coast, tending NE over inland areas ahead of a trough over the central and southern interior. This trough will dominate the state's weather causing rain areas and scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms extending over most of the central and eastern parts of the state. This will result in fine conditions with gusty S'ly winds over western Queensland in the wake of the trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
