MELBOURNE - Nov 18/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings have been issued for the Bulloo, Paroo, Thomson and Barcoo Rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough lies through the interior of Queensland. A high lies over the Great Australian Bight and will strengthen as it moves over southeast Australia. An upper level trough is developing over western Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Friday Early rain areas will clear the east and SE districts. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics this afternoon, developing through eastern districts and further to the Wide Bay and western Darling Downs regions. Fine over western Queensland. Isolated showers generally over the SE. Light to moderate SE to NE winds in the tropics tending to moderate to fresh S to SE along the south coast. Moderate S to SE winds about the southern inland. Forecast for Saturday The surface inland trough should drift west, closer to the developing upper level trough. This will extend the inland showers and thunderstorms over the interior in the afternoon. Isolated showers generally over the SE region. Some early patchy rain over the eastern interior. Showers generally about the east coast with freshening SE winds. Strong SE winds developing on the central coast to Double Island Point. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough now moves into the Channel Country resulting in showers and thunderstorms over far western districts in the afternoon and evening. Very isolated afternoon showers over the eastern interior with a little early patchy light rain. Fine over the SE and southern interior. Showers continuing about the east coast. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along the east coast increasing to strong winds about the central coast. Forecast for Monday The surface trough has crossed the western border but showers and thunderstorms remain in the far west. Very isolated afternoon showers again over the eastern interior. Fine over the southern interior. Showers about the east coast with strong winds continuing along the central coast. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds about the NE tropics, light to moderate SE to NE inland. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday A broad upper trough will persist over inland Queensland while the high in the Tasman Sea will strengthen. As a result SE winds will remain at least fresh along the east coast with scattered showers along the northeast coast and isolated showers about the southeast coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through inland parts, gradually contracting east. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
