Weather Situation
A surface trough lies through the interior of Queensland. A high lies over
the Great Australian Bight and will strengthen as it moves over southeast
Australia. An upper level trough is developing over western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Early rain areas will clear the east and SE districts. Showers and
thunderstorms generally over the tropics this afternoon, developing through
eastern districts and further to the Wide Bay and western Darling Downs regions.
Fine over western Queensland. Isolated showers generally over the SE. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds in the tropics tending to moderate to fresh S to SE
along the south coast. Moderate S to SE winds about the southern inland.
Forecast for Saturday
The surface inland trough should drift west, closer to the developing upper
level trough. This will extend the inland showers and thunderstorms over the
interior in the afternoon. Isolated showers generally over the SE region. Some
early patchy rain over the eastern interior. Showers generally about the east
coast with freshening SE winds. Strong SE winds developing on the central coast
to Double Island Point.
Forecast for Sunday
The surface trough now moves into the Channel Country resulting in showers
and thunderstorms over far western districts in the afternoon and evening. Very
isolated afternoon showers over the eastern interior with a little early patchy
light rain. Fine over the SE and southern interior. Showers continuing about the
east coast. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along the east coast increasing to
strong winds about the central coast.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough has crossed the western border but showers and
thunderstorms remain in the far west. Very isolated afternoon showers again over
the eastern interior. Fine over the southern interior. Showers about the east
coast with strong winds continuing along the central coast. Moderate to fresh SE
to E winds about the NE tropics, light to moderate SE to NE inland.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A broad upper trough will persist over inland Queensland while the high in
the Tasman Sea will strengthen. As a result SE winds will remain at least fresh
along the east coast with scattered showers along the northeast coast and
isolated showers about the southeast coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
through inland parts, gradually contracting east.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
