MELBOURNE - Nov 18/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A strong wind warning has been issued for southeast coastal waters for Friday. Flood warnings have been issued for the Bulloo, Paroo, Thomson and Barcoo Rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough lies through the Queensland eastern interior from western Cape York Peninsula through to the southeast coast. A high lies over the Great Australian Bight and will strengthen as it moves over southeast Australia on Friday. An upper trough is currently triggering rain and thunderstorms over eastern Queensland and is forecast to weaken and move offshore on Friday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Showers and thunderstorms generally over eastern districts, tending to thundery rain areas with moderate to locally heavy falls about the coast and adjacent inland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through the central interior, more scattered about the eastern Maranoa and Warrego. Very isolated showers and thunderstorms over western districts, grading to fine in the far west. Light to moderate N to NE winds over eastern Queensland, tending moderate to fresh S to SE in the west. Forecast for Friday The upper level trough moves southeast into N.S.W and weakens. The surface trough slows and weakens over eastern districts. Rain areas will clear the east in the morning. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms about eastern districts north of Gladstone and through the tropics. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the eastern Darling Downs and just isolated afternoon showers about remaining inland eastern parts. Fine over the west and central inland. Light to moderate SE to NE winds in the tropics tending moderate to fresh S to SE along the south coast. Moderate S to SE winds about the southern inland. Forecast for Saturday A new broad upper trough develops over S.A. while a broad surface trough lies through the central interior. Scattered showers and rain areas to develop about the east coast north of about Gladstone. Scattered showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and through the northeast interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through the central interior and isolated showers in the southeast. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate SE to NE inland. Forecast for Sunday The new upper trough intensifies over South Australia whilst the surface trough moves into western Queensland. Rain areas to persist about the east coast north of Gladstone. Showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and western districts, easing to isolated showers about the southeast. Fine in the far west. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate SE to NE inland. Forecast for Monday The upper trough over S.A. begins to move east over southwest Qld. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through the interior, increasing to scattered about the central and tropical coasts. Isolated showers in the southeast. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate SE to NE inland. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday A broad upper trough will persist over inland Queensland while the high in the Tasman Sea will strengthen. As a result SE winds will remain at least fresh along the east coast with scattered showers along the northeast coast and isolated showers about the southeast coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through inland parts, gradually contracting east. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
