Weather Situation
A slow moving high [1022hPa] lies over the eastern Tasman Sea and extends a
weakening ridge along the Queensland east coast. An upper level trough is
forecast to enter western Queensland. A surface trough occurs over the eastern
interior.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Early patchy rain over the eastern and southern interior will clear with
showers and thunderstorms to follow over most of the interior in the afternoon.
Thunderstorm activity will increase over the eastern and SE interior in the
afternoon near the surface trough, merging into thundery rain overnight with
moderate to locally heavy falls. Isolated showers along the east coast early.
The surface trough will extend from the Gulf Country into the southeastern
interior, with light to moderate NE to NW winds ahead of the trough, shifting
cooler S to SE behind the trough.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough over the west will intensify. Showers and thunderstorms
generally over the tropics, extending through eastern districts and tending to
thundery rain areas with moderate to locally heavy falls over southern and
eastern Queensland. Isolated showers over the Central West district, tending
fine over the west of the state. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over eastern
Queensland, tending moderate to fresh S to SE in the west.
Forecast for Friday
The upper level trough moves south into N.S.W and weakens. The surface trough
slows over eastern districts with rain areas clearing the SE with showers and
isolated thunderstorms to follow in the afternoon. Rain areas remaining along
the central coast. Showers and thunderstorms generally from the tropics, through
eastern districts east of the surface trough. Fine in the west. Mostly light to
moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending S to SE in the west.
Forecast for Saturday
A new broad upper trough sits over western Queensland while the surface
trough sits through the eastern inland. Showers and isolated thunderstorms
generally over the tropics through eastern districts as the inland trough moves
back inland. Fine in the west.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A high is forecast to build over southeastern Australia on Saturday and push
into the Tasman Sea on Sunday. As a result SE winds will freshen along the east
coast. A broad upper trough will slowly intensify over western Queensland and
move east into the new week. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms
generally about the eastern half of Queensland with mostly fine conditions in
the west.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
